Carr & Roswall

It all started 2003 when English guitarist Ian Carr and Swedish nyckelharpist Niklas Roswall
recorded the album Step on it. The record garnered great reviews and the duo played intensively for a few years. Now the duo is back with the release of a new album, Time flies, a continuing investigation of the possibilities of what can be played on a guitar and a nyckelharpa, both in newly written and traditional tunes. The format may be small but the sound is big and original with lots of variation and interesting arrangements.

Ian is from the Lake District in northern England. He now lives and works in Sweden where he moved in 2001, having visited in 1993 as guitarist in the Kathryn Tickell Band. He was a quarter of the Anglo Swedish band Swåp from the mid 90’s to the mid 00’s, while simultaneously recording and touring with Kate Rusby, Eddi Reader and Kris Drever. He recently played on Kris Drever’s BBC Folk Award winning If Wishes Were Horses and Eddi Reader’s Cavalier album.

Niklas is from Kverrestad in Skåne, southern Sweden. He is a Rikspelman, an accredited Swedish Folk Musician, and a winner of the nyckelharpa world championship. Niklas is educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. He’s played in many great Swedish bands including the Nyckelharpa Orchestra, Ranarim and the trio Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall, who recently won Group of the Year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Gala.
